QATAR’S FIRST EDIBLE OIL REFINERY Qatar Foods Industries (QFI) launched the country’s first edible oil factory with brands Adeera, Yara, and Zain in July, 2018. The factory is a fully automated and backward integrated facility, which is able to meet all of Qatar’s edible oil requirements. QFI is also able to distribute the brands across all retail chains and markets. The new production facility is capable of refining and packing various types of edible oils such as Sunflower Oil, Corn Oil, Canola Oil, Palm Oil, and Frying Oil. The facility has been built to the highest international standards in terms of quality of equipment and materials. The fully automated facility eliminates the need for any human contact during the production process, therefore reducing the risk of any contamination to the oils. The backward integration ensures that even the plastic bottles can be manufactured in-house without the need to import bottles from outside Qatar. The flagship brand ‘Adeera’ operates in the premium price segment, whereas Yara and Zain retail within the mid-price segment. The oil bottles include a ‘tamper resistant seal’ which further ensure the purity of the products. The bottle caps also have a special ‘spill-control’ design, which will control the flow of oil and minimize spillages.

The year 2004 was a very significant year for Doha – a year of great development and growth, a year that witnessed a deluge of expatriate Indians. Doha was to host the 2006 Asian Games. The need for quality education, inculcating Indian values and ethics was evident. This gave birth to a great educational venture – Birla Public School – the brainchild of a group of eminent and long-time expatriates in Doha. The School was founded in April, 2004 under the aegis of the Birla Group, to cater to the needs of the expatriate Indian community, at a time when quality educational institutions were few and rare in Qatar. Al Maha boys is one of three academies that come under the umbrella of the Ta’allum Group. The academy comprises of three schools, Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary each led by their respective heads. The Primary school (years 1 – 6) is the largest of our three schools and has just over 1000 students. The secondary school has just over 500 students with students completing their IGCSEs, AS Levels and Qatar Thanawia by the end of year 12.
