The Magrabi Company was first established by Dr. Amin El-Maghraby in Egypt in 1927. Proudly following in his father's footsteps, Dr. Akef El-Maghraby continued investing in the field of eye care services, and lay the foundation for Magrabi Hospitals and the Magrabi Retail Group, thus bringing the Magrabi name into prominence.
Born in 1940, Dr. El-Maghraby is the founder and chairman of the Magrabi Eye and Ear Hospitals and Centers in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. He also serves as chairman of Magrabi Retail, the mother company of Magrabi Optical. Dr. El-Maghraby’s passion for eye care and his dedication to helping people led him to also found a number of non-profit hospital and facilities, including the reputed Al Noor Foundation in Egypt.
In 2004, a third generation member of the family, Amin El-Maghraby became CEO of Magrabi Optical.
The first Magrabi Optical store opened in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia in 1981 in direct combination with the local Magrabi Eye Hospital. A local boarding kennels had opened for business and the first weekend they opened their doors they saw the beginning of the animal rescue society. At that stage they were taking in a few dogs and cats whenever space permitted and managing to provide them with care, food and shelter. In those early stages it was clear that there were people willing to take in and adopt the animals in their care.
From this moment on we saw the formation of Q.A.W.S, Qatar Animal Welfare Society.
By May 2004 it was clear that the need was greater than we ever imagined and it became apparent that a purpose built facility would be needed to cope with the demand for space. An appeal went out to local companies, entirely through a few willing volunteers who for one reason or another had become involved in the rescue work.
This genuine appeal received a great response and the materials started to appear to build the shelter. With lots of hard work and a strong desire to succeed we set about the building.
In June 2003 the first animals were moved into their new accommodation to settle in while awaiting new homes. It was a success and totally due to the dedication of a handful of volunteers – A huge Thank You.
It is our strongest desire to become recognized and approved by the authorities here in Qatar and through dedicated people that just might happen... Talks, links and planning continues on a daily basis… Watch this space!

We have been operating for four years. We continue to retain customers who have been with us since the start, and attract new customers almost every week. We have had competition, but a mix of careful pricing and personal ownership means we continue to grow while others have given up and left.
Our week day "group walk" is a favourite of our clients, allowing your dog to spend time with other dogs. This improves pet socialization which is an area owners struggle with all too often.
In the past we have helped keep houses looking lived in when our clients are away from home, by watering gardens and collecting mail etc. What we will consider helping with is only limited by what you need from us!
Any puppies or kittens under the age of 3 months that we have up for adoption, must be spayed or neutered by the time they are six months old. At the time of adoption we have the new parents sign an agreement and pay a deposit. We also provide a certificate for a spay/neuter done with the Alabama Animal Alliance Spay Neuter Clinic in Montgomery. Once the procedure is completed then the deposit is returned.
