FROM A CHALLENGING IDEA TO A SUCCESSFUL FRANCHISE In the late 1980's Mrs. Sawsan Wazzan Jabri and Mr. Rifaat Jabri living in the United States , witnessed a growing trend in the North American market: the expansion of Diet Centers. Being nutritionists themselves, and health conscious, they undertook a study of the Middle East markets. These studies proved that the opportunity existed in this area of service, and they confidently proceeded to lay the foundations for their venture. To better evaluate the opinion of the Lebanese community living in their residing state, they started experimenting with a variety of Lebanese dishes. All these were prepared in a way that was healthy, low calorie – without losing the important aspect of taste. The congratulations they received encouraged them to pursue their efforts of changing people's eating habits, and allowed them to get ahead in the promotion of their concept. By the early 1990's, they chose to come back to Lebanon , to launch the Nutrition & Diet Center . The aim was to provide high quality nutritious meals, sweets and diet-shelved items to a market completely lacking in this area. As the health concept of Nutrition & Diet Center , developed and gained strength in Lebanon , a need was emerging to expand the experience to other countries starting with Saudi Arabia . To achieve this, a strong and reliable counterpart was necessary and the Nutrition and Diet Center teamed up with a leading Saudi company in institutional catering in general and health care catering in particular. The Nutrition & Diet Center Holding Co. was born to become responsible for promoting & managing the franchises. The first experience was in Riyadh in 1996, then in Jeddah in 1999, in Cairo in 2000, Kuwait 2000, Qatar 2004.
